Zowè, Zowey or togolese spicy peanut snack balls
Origin
This snack got its origin from west Africa and expanded to other places via migration. You can find this snack not only in Togo, but Ghana, Benin, Nigeria…. Depending on the location, it has multiple names like Zowey, Donkwa, Dzowoe, Dzowey, Dakuwa, Adaakwa,…
Ingredients
Ingredients are readily available in all pantry and takes just minutes to make this snack. The dosage of ingredients depends on your preferences. You might not want it very spicy, or not too sweet. I use swerve sweetener but table sugar is what the original recipe call for.
For ginger and chili you can use fresh ginger and chili pepper powder. Also peanut butter can be used instead of grounding your own peanut.
This recipe can be 100 percent lowcarb and keto friendly if corn ratio to peanut is really low. In this case this peanut powder is best for the recipe. Of course keto friendly sweetener should be use.
Rolling Techniques
If the paste is too dry, add more corn flower. I personally add peanut powder in order to keep the recipe low carb and keto friendly.
If the mixture is too dry add a drop of peanut oil. Other spices can be added if you wish in your preparation.
